BD without Barriers: Finding an Accessible Venue

two people having a conversation

A few months ago, Leah Burrows and I got talking over coffee in Spicer & Cole and decided that we wanted to hold a networking event with a difference.

The aim – a fun, inclusive and accessible networking event catering for as many different needs as possible (and deliberately trying to tackle some of the barriers to in-person networking) – with a fantastic speaker!

You can now book tickets for #BDWithoutBarriers on 08 July (booking link).

One of our first tasks was sourcing an accessible venue in Bristol (which is actually harder than it sounds). We have chosen to go for the Watershed where we have hired one of their brand new event spaces.

The Watershed gets my support anyway as the cinema shows subtitled screenings during non-working hours, but as a venue they are completely transparent about the accessibility of their building – and what support they have in place.

What is great is that they have included all this information on their website (no more wondering/second guessing if the venue is accessible). They also have full pictures/descriptions on AccessAble so you can see for yourself and if you still have questions you can email or phone them (it is so important to have the choice).

If you want an example of what accessibility information to put on your website about your firm office or venue – this is a great example.

The image is a promotional graphic for an event titled "BD Without Barriers", organised by the Bristol Law Society and bdp, and supported by the Disabled Solicitors South West Network. The image sets out the information that is set out in this post. The design features a coral background with yellow stars marking each agenda point, a waving hand icon, and logos for the supporting organisations.
