Clubhouse suspended a blind man for providing a live transcript to help deaf people.

So far I’ve been staying away from Audio-Only Apps including Clubhouse. I’ve downloaded, had a brief play with it, but not really engaged yet after all — Audio-Only is just not worth the hassle for me personally.

However, I was shocked to read in a Business Insider article that user Jurgen Donaldson was suspended from Clubhouse for providing a live transcript to a conversation, which is against the app’s rules.

The ban on any kind of transcription or recording specifically excludes those of us who rely on captions. While I accept that not everyone is quite there yet on including accessibility features — they are usually trying to incorporate them and improve their accessibility.

I find it baffling that the starting point is to exclude disabled people by making the product inaccessible and that they are banning those who do try and make it more accessible.
