I have decided to create a new home for my “Law with Subtitles” blog. I didn’t write anything at all last year, so I thought that a new look and a new home might inspire me to continue writing about my journey and sharing resources and musings about subtitles, being a solicitor and accessibility within the legal profession (and beyond).
I’ve also imported by old posts from my Medium blog which you can now find on this site (and deleted the old Medium blog) so you can read the old content too.
Revisiting my Resolutions
Although we are already in February, I thought I’d also revisit the resolutions that I made on this blog at the beginning of 2021 and I’ve set these out again, below:
#1: Explore disability issues and culture.
Covid-19 changed my relationship with my disability and disability issues. I didn’t manage to keep to my 2021 goal/resolution, but I think it is a good one, so wanted to try it again.
Goal: Write a blog post a month on something that will teach you about disability issues, history or culture.
#2: Create a Community.
Disability usually doesn’t come with a built-in community. I don’t often come across other people with disabilities or have the opportunity to talk with them (and when I do come across other disabled people they will usually have other types of disabilities). I have been working on building my relationship with other disabled lawyers and joined a number of networking groups and communities to try and build these relationships (and support others). This is one of the reasons why I was inspired to try blogging again.
Goal: Continue to participate in networking groups and communities for disabled lawyers and the wider disabled and deaf and hard of hearing community.
#3: Speak up.
I want to try and continue to be open and honest about my disability and the challenges I face in the workplace. Goal: Continue the conversation to help drive change as much as possible.
#4: Raise awareness.
A combination of all of the above is to also promote disability awareness (both inside and outside the office). So it is important to keep the conversation going — so my final goal is to continue to write on a regular basis about my own personal experiences and thoughts and to continue to share resources that I find.
